Supporting Women in the Backcountry
For several years we've been hosting splitboard meetups to help others overcome the initial barriers of getting into the backcountry. Over that time period, we've noticed that we've been missing a portion of our community - women. We want to help change that.
This year we partnered with Backcountry Babes to help create a program to provide AIARE Avalanche Education for women in Colorado, California, New Mexico and New Hampshire with hopes to grow it in the future.
We’ll be awarding up to $10,000 based upon our contribution of 10% of the profits from the Riva and Rise snowboards and splitboards.
Now accepting scholarships until February 1st or Backcountry Babes runs out of available course slots!
Inspiring Connection Through Outdoor Adventures.
Backcountry Babes is dedicated to creating inspiring adventures in the outdoors for women. As pioneers of women-specific backcountry education, they offer high quality trips that not only provide a valuable educational experience, but empower and inspire us in all aspects of our lives. Backcountry Babes has been committed to educating women in a fun and supportive learning environment since 1997.
Knowledge is Power.
At Weston, we know adventure sports can be intimidating, and Backcountry Babes addresses those factors by teaching tools and skills for backcountry travel. In their courses you’ll learn backcountry basics, and then apply that knowledge in a small group setting. You’ll gain knowledge, confidence and self reliance in the backcountry with coaching from our instructors. Backcountry Babes instructors are some of the best guides and educators in the industry, with high levels of certification from the AMGA, ACMG, AIARE, and other well-respected organizations. They have decades of experience teaching in the outdoors, and know what you need to know to succeed. They are excellent teachers, and in addition to teaching skills they are inclusive, supportive and there for you. (Learn more about our Guides!) Their students again and again gave them the feedback that they loved the courses, learned a lot, and are more confident knowing they can be more self-reliant on backcountry trips. All you need is the knowledge, great teachers, and an excellent learning environment. Backcountry Babes strives to create this environment and our students return again and again.
Why Women’s Specific?
Backcountry Babes women’s specific programming to celebrate exploring our passions. Backcountry Babes’ courses help to create a balance in the outdoor community by encouraging more women to become involved in backcountry pursuits. Stepping outside the traditional mixed gender environment, women of all ages learn and explore in a place void of competition. Our Babes come together to ski and learn, but come away with a deeper respect for other women of different backgrounds, ages and interests. Amazing connections, friendships and growth occur on our women’s trips in the backcountry. In addition to skiing fun slopes, hiking, traveling, and adventuring, our trips are also a space where we can reinvent ourselves, reconnect with our strength and power within, and rejuvenate at a core level. Through this coming together, we find strength, growth, and most of all, have a lot of fun together 🙂
