Serving up the tastiest lines, rider Jon Adgate debuts his 2018/19 season edit, Pow Buffet.
Deep in the northern Colorado Rockies, I spent another winter splitboarding in the wilderness searching for solitude, dream lines, and fresh powder. With historically large avalanche cycles, it was too dangerous in high alpine for much of the season until things settled down. I patiently waited in the low elevation trees having a blast riding some of the deepest pow of my life.
After the mountains healed themselves and spring rolled around, the buzz in the backcountry community was strong. I had a few lines high on my list to ride due to failed attempts the years prior.
The ender line in the video was my third attempt at it which made it that much more special. The first attempt was with fellow Weston Backcountry team rider, Brendon Glenwright, in spring 2017. We had to turn around about half-way (around four hours) to the summit due to rapidly warming conditions.
The next spring, my friend Andy Vetter and I decided to winter camp next to it but found out the hard way when we go there this line needs a lot of snow to be rideable. Rocks and cliffs scoured the couloir. This year, my world-champion free skiing girlfriend Rebecca Selig and I checked this one of the list together. I’ll never forget that day.
This season is dedicated to my fallen backcountry brother Bindu Pomeroy. It wasn’t the same without you but I know you turned the faucet on for us. - Jon Adgate
