Deep days only? Hell no. This swallowtail hunts pow wherever it falls.

The Japow Splitboard is Weston’s legendary pow-chaser turned backcountry touring machine - a directional, swallowtail split built for riders who dream in cold smoke and live for the deepest days of the year. But don't let the name fool you - this isn’t just a Japan trip souvenir. The Japow Split is just as at home on blower storm days in the Tetons or ghosted tree runs in the Cascades.

Its wide nose, deep sidecut, and signature swallowtail shape deliver unmatched float without sacrificing control. That tapered design keeps your nose planing effortlessly, reduces back-leg burn, and makes tight trees feel like wide-open bowls. The tail sinks, the nose rises, and the board slashes with a surfy, playful feel that transforms the steep and deep into a powder playground.

Under the hood, the Slayer Split Core uses poplar for lightweight touring performance reinforced with bamboo stringers for strength and pop. Tail V Carbon Inserts keep it snappy and responsive, while the Sintered Durasurf 4001 Base keeps you moving when the exit track turns flat. Built with SplitTech inside edges and tail-shifted balance for easier kick turns and smoother touring, UHMW sidewalls, and a Rugged Topsheet, the Japow Split is designed to take a beating and keep floating.

Developed and tested with Weston athletes and guides, the Japow Split is backed by our 4-Year Warranty and support through the Board Slayer Program.

If you're the type who checks storm cycles before checking emails, this is your backcountry powder predator.

Hokkaido Backcountry Club has spent years exploring resorts, endless backcountry zones, and sidecountry in search of the best lines, hidden zones, and deepest powder Japan can offer. It’s only fitting we teamed up to create a limited-edition artist series version of our legendary deep dish deck, the JAPOW!

*The grouping of skins leads to variation in base coverage between sizes and models. We feel that these provide sufficient traction and coverage, but if you feel the need for 100% base coverage, consider the OSFA trim to fit option.

    Swallowtail

Reduces tail volume to sink the back naturally, keeping your nose up and your line smooth in the deepest conditions. Less back-leg burn, more effortless surf. It’s the pow-specific shape that lets you slash, smear, and carve with total control.

    Tail V Carbon Inserts

Carbon fiber runs from the tail inserts to the tail contact points to provide added edge to edge response and spring in the tail.

    Bamboo Inserts

Reinforced bamboo at binding mounts adds strength, prevents pull-outs, and keeps flex consistent for long-lasting splitboard durability.

    LAYUP

    Slayer Split Core

A blend of poplar and bamboo minimizes weight and makes for a snappy, responsive ride. Bamboo running the length of the board acts like a spring and increases pop throughout. This lightweight combination minimizes weight, meaning more of your effort can go towards having fun, instead of dealing with a heavy board. Both woods are fast growing and sustainability farmed, so natural forests aren’t harmed.

    Triax Fiberlass

Balanced, bombproof flex. From groomers to glades.

Sintered DuraSurf 4001 Base + Holeless

Fast ride, more durable, good wax retention. It's the gold standard in bases. The 4000-series sintered base have a higher density than other options on the market, leading to better durability. Additionally, this structure absorbs more wax, making for a faster and smoother ride*. 4000-series PTEX is usually reserved for only top-of-the-line boards due to a higher manufacturing cost, but at Weston we use these on every board we make.

*With great power comes great responsibility. Higher wax absorption means the wax will also release faster and requires waxing more often. If you can’t remember the last time your board has been waxed, it's probably due. A quick coat every couple of rides will keep your board lightning fast.

    MATERIALS

    Rugged Topsheet

Think Rhino-Liner for your snowboard. This topsheet is bomb-proof and is designed to resist scratches and chipping. Plus its hydrophobic properties help to shed snow and prevent buildup. And if you weren’t sold already, it's made of castor beans instead of petroleum products, reducing the environmental footprint. The only downside is stickers don’t like to stick to it… but that's what helmets are for anyways.

    UHMW (Ultra-High Molecular Weight) Sidewalls

Highly durable and impact resistant. Takes the hits. Keeps charging.

    Carbon Steel Edges

Our edges are built with carbon steel, chosen for its balance of sharpness, strength, and longevity in real mountain conditions. Different rockwell hardness variants are used across our lineup to dial in performance - harder edges that hold sharpness longer for freeride and split models, and slightly softer ones for freestyle where durability and crack resistance matter most.

Each edge is precision-tuned for maximum grip when it counts - on steep couloirs, icy traverses, and firm morning groomers - while still delivering a smooth, responsive ride in deep pow. Built to take a beating and keep carving, our carbon steel edges are designed for the long haul, season after season.

    • Bio-Based Topsheets

A portion of these topsheets are derived from Castor Beans, reducing the need for petroleum based products.

    • Solvent-Free Inks

The inks in our graphics generally use natural carriers and have low to no VOCs, making them safer to work with and better for the environment.

    • Flax Fibers

Flax fibers provide great characteristics when it comes to strength and dampening, while being derived from natural plants.

    • Sustainably Sourced Cores

The wood in the cores is grown and harvested from plantations instead of from natural forests, making the process less invasive and destructive.

    • Die-Cut Bases

Solid color die-cut bases reduce the waste created by other graphics approaches, and the black is more easily repaired.

    • Recycled Material In Edges

The edges use upwards of 50% recycled materials, reusing scrap in production and reducing the need for virgin materials.

    • VOC Free Epoxy

The epoxy we use is VOC free, making it safer to work with and better for the environment without sacrificing durability or performance.
